What makes working for our company different than others?


There are plenty of Plumbing companies to work for and all of them offer certain benefits that distinguish them from others. At Pioneer there are a few things that we feel set us apart from the rest. Read below to find out what that is. 


1. We hire for attitude first, and skill second. We feel strongly that a positive can do attitude is more important than skill. Skill can be taught, and at Pioneer we have skilled tradesmen that offer support to all our technicians. The team dynamic at Pioneer is something special so when we look for new hires our goal is to add a piece to our team that will make the team better.


2. We encourage training. Some of our best technicians came to us as green apprentices. Through exposing them to a wide variety of situations in our industry they have grown to be very well rounded plumbing and hvac technicians. We don’t discourage our apprentices from booking and following through with there trades schooling. We also encourage our ticketed plumbers to seek out further schooling and often cover the cost if they want to take certain courses that will help them become better.


3. We offer flexible scheduling. Our hours of operation are Monday-Friday 8am-6pm. Our technicians can choose between two different shifts. One shift is Monday - Friday 8-4pm. The other shift is a 4 - 10 hour day shift with 3 days off entering around the weekend. We have found that many technicians like the second option as they value time off.


4. We offer a flex benefits package. Since technicians are in different stages of life, we feel it’s important to offer multiple options for benefits as some technicians may have a family to look after and other techs may not have need for an expensive benefits package. Pioneer will match a portion of the cost of the benefits package you choose and there are all levels of packages and coverage depending on your needs.


5. We offer quarterly performance bonuses to our technicians. Every quarter we sit down with each technician individually and go over their performance. Part of the review entails basic employment expectations such as being reliable, helping out the team, acting in a professional manner, etc. There is another aspect to the review that focuses on the technicians profitability for the company. Bonuses range anywhere from $200-$1500 per quarter.


6. We are a team orientated company. Every quarter we aim to get the team together for a company event. BBQs in the summer, Christmas parties in the winter, and a few other events to break up the year. We like to have a good time outside of work as well.


7. Technicians with the right skill set receive a company van to take home, a gas card, a cell phone, and an IPad for billing. The cell phone is owned and paid for by Pioneer but we encourage our technicians to use it as if it was their own. This allows our technicians to get rid of their personal cell phones and save a bit of money.


8. Technicians are paid weekly. Every Friday you are paid through direct deposit. Our technicians seem to like this best vs being paid every 2 weeks. 


9. We value professionalism. Part of this involves looking like a pro. At Pioneer we provide pioneer branded shirts, sweaters, jackets, toques and hats to ensure our techs are always looking professional in front of our customers.


10. Minimal paperwork. Pioneer plumbing uses a cloud based software that allows technicians to receive all job info, record their hours, invoice and collect all from a company iPad.


11. We are a growing company with plenty of opportunity to advance. The exciting thing about being apart of a growing company is that technicians who show leadership skills and desire to advance are often given that opportunity. New positions become needed and techs who lead by example are usually the right fit for these new roles.
