Your home relies on clean water, as long as it is safely contained. But a water line can fast become the enemy if it goes where it shouldn’t, causing potential damage to floors, or furnishings. When that happens it's best to call a leak detection contractor to get things fixed quickly and up to code.

Plumbing leaks can damage property if left undetected and it’s likely that most homes will suffer from at least one on occasion. What’s more, not every type of leak is obvious; in fact, they can be insidiously hidden, making it crucial to catch and repair a leak as soon as possible. Water stains are usually a dead giveaway.

How To Find a Water Leak

Monthly water bills are fairly predictable, so if you receive one that’s unusually high and you haven’t been using excess water, you may have a leak. The Environmental Protection Agency suggests that a family of four will typically use no more than 12,000 gallons per month, except perhaps during the summer if you water a garden or lawn. Even a slow leak, such as a leaky faucet or hot water tank with a steady drip, can waste as much as 10,000 gallons of water per year, so keeping an eye on your water meter is a smart thing to do.

Our leak detection team uses advanced techniques to located and repair leaking pipes hidden behind walls, in crawl spaces and other hard to reach areas. We'll find the problem and get it fixed to your satisfaction.

Look at Appliances and Fixtures

Check cabinets under the kitchen, laundry, and bathroom sinks to make sure they’re dry. You’ll also want to look for puddles around the bases of tubs, toilets, and showers and water stains under the water heater, dishwasher, and clothes washer. If you find any puddles or toilet leaks, turn off the water supply valve to that appliance or fixture and call one of our expert plumbers. We will dispatch a licensed plumber right away and a professional plumber will be there as soon as possible.

Dealing With Tub Drain Leaks

If you can see the underside of the drain through an access panel or open ceiling, partially fill the tub and then release the water. In a shower, plug the drain with a rag and then release the water. Check the drains and traps for leaks from below through the access panel.

If you don’t have access to the underside of the drain, plug the drain and add enough water to form a small puddle around the drain. Mark the edge of the puddle by setting a bottle of shampoo next to it. Then wait an hour. If the puddle shrinks, the drain is leaking. Don’t rely on your tub stopper for this test; it may leak. Remove the stopper and insert a 1-1/2-in. test plug (find them at home centers). Remove the grate and use a 2-in. plug for a shower.

DIY Shower Leak Repair

If you have access to a shower drain from below, tighten the ring nut that locks the drain to the shower pan. If that doesn’t work, replace the drain assembly. If you don’t have access beneath the drain, cut a hole in the ceiling below or replace the drain assembly.

If you would rather have a professional solve any drain leaks for you, call us today. You can trust the work we do.

Household Plumbing Leaks

There are several leak causes that can occur in a residential or commercial property. A common type is the pinhole leak. A tiny hole in a pipe that can slowly release water. Another type is a slab leak, which occurs when there is a leak underneath the foundation of a building. Additionally, there are indoor and outdoor faucet leaks, toilet leaks, and joint leaks, all of which can cause water damage if not addressed promptly.

It is important to watch for any signs of leaks and hire a professional plumber to fix them as soon as possible.

What You Should Know About Pipe Leak Repair

DIY network experts share 10 things you must know about a plumbing issue. You don't need to know everything about leak repair, but it's important to understand the most common types of water leaks.

  1. Wrap your pipes. The important feature is the exterior piping. If the cold-water pipes touch the exterior portion of the building, when the water isn't being used and the temperature is very cold, most likely they will freeze. The only time water won't freeze is when it's moving, so it's is a good idea to leave all the faucets open while you're away from home for any length of time. The best thing you can do, however, is insulate the whole space to avoid the cost of leak repair services.
  2. You may not know what's right, but you can usually spot what's wrong. Take a quick look and inspect any visible pipes in your house, just to keep up on what's going on with them. Homeowners often don't routinely check; then a puddle of water appears in the basement, damaging their valuables, and they had no inkling that anything was amiss. You can look in your basement and have no idea what you're looking at, but if you see water stains, or signs of water, you'll know something's wrong. It's always a good idea to hire a plumbing professional to take care of things, for your own peace of mind.
  3. An old sink can spring water leaks. Under your kitchen sink, just take a peek every once in a while and see if there are any wet spots or water stains. If so, a plumber will be the solution. If left alone, moisture can start a mould and mildew problem, which is something you want to avoid at all cost.
